I experienced my first back-country canoe trip over thirty five years ago – heading out with a high school group called “The Rusticators”. We started out at Long Lake in what is now part of the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park. Then at seventeen, I left southern Ontario for Massey to work as a Junior Ranger, a job that included a lot of canoeing as well as a seven day back-country canoe trip.
Over the years I have had the good fortune to canoe with a lot of great people, creating some amazing memories. Many winter nights have been spent with books, websites and maps planning our summer adventures. We have learned so much from other paddlers and campers who shared their stories, we decided it’s our turn.
